Is it just me or does it feel like it’s always Mother’s Day? Each year, it feels like it comes around quicker and each year, it gets more difficult to think of personal present ideas.

We all love our mother’s and are eternally grateful for everything they do for us. If we could, we’d buy them the world, but when your wallet is saying ‘no’, there are tons of homemade craft ideas to not break the bank and still show you care.

Sweet Blood Orange

Fresh blood orange is fruity and acidity – not to mention its vibrant colour looks awesome! For a non-alcoholic alternative to vodka, switch to white grape juice or apple cider combined with lime juice.

Ingredients

  • 2 oz of Vodka
  • 6 oz of blood orange juice
  • 1 sprig of rosemary

Method

  • In a cocktail shaker, add the vodka, juice and rosemary with ice
  • Shake and strain
  • Garnish with rosemary

Butterscotch Dessert

This cocktail has a bit of a kick, and is perfect for after a meal, or in replacement to a morning snack. Only add a dash of Baileys Irish Cream to reduce its strength, or replace with single cream.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 oz of buttershots or butterscotch schnapps
  • 1/2 oz of Baileys Irish Cream
  • 5 oz of coffee

Method

  • Adding the coffee first, stir all ingredients together in a tall glass
  • Top with whipped cream

Fruity Schnapps

It’s still February, which means we’re all yearning for the summer but have to put up with the winter blues. Use hot apple cider, or mix with ice to create the perfect taste for your mother.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/4 oz of peach schnapps
  • 6 oz of Apple Cider

Method

  • Mix all ingredients together and serve in a mug if not
  • Alternatively, add ice and serve in a short glass

Strawberry Enemy

Everybody loves a strawberry-flavoured cocktail and this one is a sure winner. For a mellower taste, switch the Cointreau to pure orange juice and add water instead of the rum.

Try freezing two strawberries and adding to the drink for a personal touch.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 oz of Cointreau (or orange liqueur)
  • 1/2 oz of white rum (or Light Rum)
  • 1/2 oz of brown rum (or Dark rum)
  • 1/2 oz of Lemon Juice
  • 1/2 oz of Pineapple Juice
  • 1/2 oz of strawberry syrup
  • 1/2 oz of grenadine syrup

Recipe

  • Add all ingredients to a shaker with ice
  • Garnish with a strawberry for a sweet appearance

Absinthe is everybody’s best friend and worst enemy. Try adding in more water to dilute the drink, or switch to apple juice for a completely different taste altogether.

Ingredients

  • 2 oz of Gin
  • 2 oz of absinthe

Method

  • Add ingredients to a cocktail shaker with 2 oz of water and ice
  • Shake well and pour into a cocktail glass
